Freedom Agility Policies

Dogs must be under control of the handlers at all times. Handlers must be at least 18 years old. Handlers must clean up after their dogs. Please bring your own bags. Equipment cannot be used without the permission and supervision of a Freedom Agility instructor. Dogs not actively participating in a class must remain on lead or in a suitable enclosure. Excessive barking will not be tolerated. Visitors are welcome to watch, however they must remain away from the working area. Children must be accompanied by a non-handler adult. Dogs displaying aggressive behavior will be asked to leave the class without refund. Freedom Obedience instructors will determine what constitutes aggressive behavior. Unsafe or harsh handling of dogs, and / or inappropriate use of equipment will not be tolerated and will result in dismissal from class without refund. Female dogs in heat are not allowed to attend class or be on the property.

Who Can Take Agility Classes?

Dogs of any breed and size can succeed in agility. However the following dogs will not be permitted in class:

Available Classes

We are currently offering three levels of courses. Each course consists of eight one-hour (50 minutes training, 10 minutes Q&A/individual practice) classes. Each course will be limited to 12 dogs. Each basic course will costs $99 per dog. The intermediate course costs $110 per dog.

If you are not sure what class to take, DON'T WORRY!! Prior to each session all new dogs are invited to attend an evaluation clinic where we will help you determine what level class you are ready for.

  1. Basic Agility Obedience.

    This class is designed to teach dogs and handlers the basic obedience skills required to safely and successfully participate in the agility training program, including: sit, down, stay, wait, and basic recall - around distractions. In addition, an introduction to basic non-moving agility equipment will be provided including tunnels, dog walk, pause box, and hurdles. Dogs who exhibit proficient basic agility obedience skills can be directly enrolled in the Basic Agility Course. This is the class to take if your dog needs to work on off leash commands, or basic commands like sit , down, stay or wait.

  2. Beginner Agility.

    Basic Agility: This class introduces all non-moving obstacles including tunnels, hurdles, tire-jump, A-frame, dog walk, weave polls, pause box, and table; basic handling skills, and introduction to sequence training of obstacles. This class requires good basic obedience skills.

  3. Intermediate Agility.

    This class builds on the skills learned in Beginner Agility. It continues work with all non-moving obstacles, introduces moving obstacles, and continues handling skills training, and extended sequence training.

Registration

Step 1: Register through the Fairfax County Community Recreation Services by calling 703-222-4664 or mail in your registration form in the Fairfax County Community Recreation Services Magazine. Payment is made through Fairfax County.

Step 2: Fill out Freedom Obedience registration form. Available on the page or at the first day of class.

Date and Location

Agility Classes are taught at ???? located at Little River Turnpike and Picket Rd. in Fairfax city. Classes will be held on Sunday morning starting at 9, 10:15 and 11:30 AM.

Weather Policy

In the event of inclement weather class may be cancelled. Class will be held in light rain so come prepared. For an update on class status please call Laura at 703-998-5176, or visit this website. Any cancelled classes will be made up at the end of the session.
